Disney Cruise Line may not be the most budget-friendly option out there but in my opinion, it’s absolutely the best. And honestly? It’s worth every penny. The ships are gorgeous and impeccably maintained, the service is unmatched, and the entertainment is pure Disney magic. Add in incredible kids’ clubs and a family-friendly atmosphere that goes above and beyond, and it’s easy to see why so many people keep coming back.
But here’s the real question: can you actually save money on a Disney cruise? Let’s take a look!

1. Book Early
This is hands-down the best way to get the lowest price. Disney Cruise Line typically releases sailings about 18 months in advance, and prices only go up as rooms fill. The earlier you book, the better the rate.
If you’ve sailed before, your Castaway Club status can give you early booking access:
- Silver – after 1 sailing
- Gold – after 5 sailings
- Platinum – after 10 sailings
Higher-tier members get first dibs before the general public. Take advantage of that if you can!
2. Use a Travel Agent That Offers Shipboard Credit
Some Disney-authorized travel agents (like ME!) offer shipboard credits up to $750 when you book through them. This is free onboard spending money you can use for things like:
- Spa treatments
- Souvenirs
- Adult beverages
- Specialty dining
It’s one of the easiest ways to save without lifting a finger!
3. Look for Category Guarantee Staterooms
After the final payment deadline passes for a cruise, Disney sometimes releases discounted rooms called “Guarantee” Staterooms:
- IGT – Inside Guarantee
- OGT – Oceanview Guarantee
- VGT – Verandah Guarantee
You won’t get to choose your exact stateroom as you’ll be assigned one a week or so before sailing but you’re guaranteed a room in the chosen category or better. These fares are non-refundable, non-changeable, and final so be sure you’re all in before booking.
While these deals can be cheaper than regular fares, they’re often still more expensive than booking early. So again: book early if you can!
4. Check for Special Offers
Disney Cruise Line occasionally releases special offers on select sailings, and I update these weekly.

5. The Target Disney Gift Card Hack
If you’re planning to pay with cash or debit, this one’s gold. Here’s how it works:
- Sign up for a Target RedCard Debit (linked to your bank account)
- Buy Disney gift cards at 5% off
- Use those gift cards to pay for your cruise
For example, a $5,000 cruise paid this way would only cost $4,750 (a $250 savings.) Stack that with a $250 onboard credit from your travel agent? You’ve just saved 10% with minimal effort.
The Bottom Line
While Disney Cruise Line will never be a bargain-basement vacation, it can be more affordable than you think. Use a mix of early booking, smart credit strategies, and little-known hacks and you might just find yourself sailing off with a little extra magic and money in your pocket.
